The Archangels: St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, September 29

The Archangels as a group are patrons of Death, Police, Grocers, and Radiologists.  During most abortions, the infant will die as a result of the surgical and medical tactics.  On occasion the mother undergoing the procedure will die as a result of complications.  Let us ask the angels to comfort and watch over those mothers and infants.  Each individual archangel is the patron of various professions that might play a role in the lives of persons prior to, and following these procedures and activities.

St. Gabriel announces the news and Word.  The persons looked over by him include:  Broadcasters, Telecommunication Persons, Postal Workers, Stamp Collectors, Diplomats and Ambassadors.  Please pray for me as I spread the news about the atrocities, and pray for the diplomats in the UN, and around the world that combat the culture of death on a daily basis.  Our friends at HLI and PRI need our prayers and support.  May St. Gabriel sound the trumpet and call us to arms.  The name Gabriel is derived from Hebrew, meaning:  “God is my strength”.

St. Michael, from whom I received part of my name, is the guardian of the Church, the Vatican, Mariners, Police, Military, Firefighters, Paramedics, and those suffering with sickness.  St. Michael leads us against the dark, evil forces of the Culture of Death.  Keep the emergency responders in your prayers as they answer pleas for help at the abortion facilities.  Michael’s name is of Greek origin, meaning:  “Who is like God?’

St. Raphael acts as a guide.  He is patron of:  Blind Persons, those who suffer from eye diseases, Physicians, Pharmacists, Lovers, Travelers, and those who suffer with Mental Illness.  Raphael oversees our Guardian Angels.  Remember in prayer those in society, especially our government leaders that are blind to the attacks against the Natural Law.  Remember too, the Pharmacists and Physicians involved in the promotion of abortion, and those trying to heal the wounds that result.  Pray for those suffering the long-standing mental effects of these procedures, and ask God to assist the medical healers who are assisting them.  Raphael is from Hebrew, meaning:  “It is God who heals”.

Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael’s Story

Angels—messengers from God—appear frequently in Scripture, but only Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are named.

Michael appears in Daniel’s vision as “the great prince” who defends Israel against its enemies; in the Book of Revelation, he leads God’s armies to final victory over the forces of evil. Devotion to Michael is the oldest angelic devotion, rising in the East in the fourth century. The Church in the West began to observe a feast honoring Michael and the angels in the fifth century.

Gabriel also makes an appearance in Daniel’s visions, announcing Michael’s role in God’s plan. His best-known appearance is an encounter with a young Jewish girl named Mary, who consents to bear the Messiah.

Raphael’s activity is confined to the Old Testament story of Tobit. There he appears to guide Tobit’s son Tobiah through a series of fantastic adventures which lead to a threefold happy ending: Tobiah’s marriage to Sarah, the healing of Tobit’s blindness, and the restoration of the family fortune.

The memorials of Gabriel and Raphael were added to the Roman calendar in 1921. The 1970 revision of the calendar joined their individual feasts to Michael’s.

Reflection

Each of the archangels performs a different mission in Scripture: Michael protects; Gabriel announces; Raphael guides. Earlier belief that inexplicable events were due to the actions of spiritual beings has given way to a scientific world-view and a different sense of cause and effect. Yet believers still experience God’s protection, communication, and guidance in ways which defy description. We cannot dismiss angels too lightly.

We can ask the Archangels to intercede on behalf of the children and mothers who are in difficult circumstances.  We pray the right choice will be made, the choice that is pleasing to God’s will.  The word ‘angel’ is derived from Greek, and means ‘messenger’.  Prayers to each of the Archangels and to our Guardian Angels are available on this site.  We request these Messengers to assist us as we encounter these difficult circumstances.  To learn more about the Archangels visit:  www.franciscanmedia.org, www.catholicculture.org, and www.wikipedia.org.
