My Journey through the Womb, Week 8 to Week 16

At nine weeks ovaries are present in my ‘lady cousins’, and testes in the males. At 9 1/2 weeks the heart is nearly fully formed, and EKG recordings are similar to my new-born friends. At 10 weeks my kidneys begin to produce urine, and fingers and hands are formed. Right and left-handedness is determined now, and I have 90% of my 4,500 body parts, weighing in at a whopping 1/10 ounce, measuring 1 1/4 inch in length! All you football and basketball coaches, listen up and be on the look-out! My eyelids are fused shut at 10 1/2 weeks to protect this sensitive organ. At 11 weeks my intestine begins to absorb water and nutrients. I also respond to touch on the face, palms, and feet. I sigh, stretch, and suck my thumb. I also swallow amniotic fluid (pee water) - Yuk!

I’m yawning when tired at 11 1/2 weeks, and fingerprints are evident at 12 weeks. My amniotic fluid gives me an additional culinary delight now that bowel movements occur. At 13 weeks my nose and lips are formed, and complex facial expressions are visible. At 14 weeks my taste buds on the tongue and in the mouth are present. Hormones of a wide variety are produced, just like when I am a teenager in years, but now a teenager in weeks. Girls are observed to be moving their mouths more than my ‘boy cousins’. My father says; “No wise cracks” - I know many men who love to gab! My teeth are developing, and light touch is detectable over my entire body, except for the scalp. My mum can feel me moving around at 16 weeks gestation.

Earlier in this period of development I described my eyelids as being fused. My father is reminded of the times he closed his eyes, or turned his head away when he was confronted with an injustice happening in this world. My father often would turn his head away to avoid eye contact with a beggar or homeless person on the street. He would even cross the road to avoid eye contact with certain members of society. Let us offer a prayer for persons who are suffering with financial hardships, and pray for those who confront them on the street, that they will undergo a metanoia, and open their hearts and wallets to assist them with their difficult journey.

Thanks for reading about my journey within my mum’s womb. If you would like to learn more details about the specific organ systems you may do so in the ‘Words from the Womb’ section of my website. www.wordsfromthewomb.com. The scientific site where more details are available is: www.ehd.org.

Keep in mind that to allow evil to persist, requires only that good men do nothing.
